Makhtar Diop is a Senegalese economist and international-development executive who has served as Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation since March 2021. His earlier public roles include Senegal's Minister of Economy and Finance and senior World Bank leadership positions focused on Africa and infrastructure.

Diop assumed office as IFC Managing Director on March 1, 2021, following an appointment announced with the additional title of Executive Vice President. IFC leadership materials continued to list him as Managing Director as of August 22, 2026.
Diop joined the World Bank in 2001 after working in banking and at the International Monetary Fund. His World Bank career included service as Country Director for Brazil; Country Director for Kenya, Eritrea, and Somalia; and Director for Finance, Private Sector and Infrastructure in the Latin America and Caribbean region. He later led the institution's work as Vice President for Africa from 2012 to 2018 and as Vice President for Infrastructure from 2018 to 2021.
A Senegalese national and economist by training, Diop served as Senegal's Minister of Economy and Finance before his senior World Bank Group leadership roles. He holds economics degrees from the University of Warwick and the University of Nottingham in England.
