In a 2015 interview, Miyazaki said he grew up in Shizuoka, studied social science at Keio University, and worked at Oracle Corporation before entering game development. He joined FromSoftware as a developer in 2004, initially working on the Armored Core series before receiving a lead credit on Demon's Souls.
Official platform and publisher materials identify Miyazaki as director of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Bandai Namco and FromSoftware also described Elden Ring as having been made under his guidance as director.
Reported career profiles place Miyazaki's promotion to president of FromSoftware in 2014. As of August 22, 2026, the company's official listing identified him as Representative Director and President, combining corporate leadership with his established work as a game director.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice won Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2019, while Elden Ring won Game of the Year and Best Game Direction in 2022; these awards were presented to the games and their credited companies rather than to Miyazaki personally. Separately, Miyazaki received the 2022 Japan Game Awards Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award. FromSoftware later announced that Sekiro had exceeded 10 million units sold worldwide.
