BusinessDay Nigeria and a fashion-sector report from the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta state that she studied at the University of Miami and the University of Lagos, and attribute a master's-level qualification in finance and management to her.
Sagoe is identified as the founder of House of Deola and as a designer working in African haute couture. The company's account emphasizes bespoke fashion and bridal wear, while its website describes Deola Sagoe Limited as the company behind the DEOLA, CLAN and Deola Sagoe Uniforms offerings. Sources disagree on whether her design career began in 1988 or 1989.
Sagoe discussed presenting a Fall/Winter 2014 collection at New York Fashion Week and introducing CLAN alongside the DEOLA label in a contemporaneous interview.
