President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs on April 29, 2026. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that she formally assumed duty on May 8, and the State House listed her in the federal cabinet as of August 2026. Her appointment followed service as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, a position in which she was sworn in on November 4, 2024.
Before joining the foreign ministry's political leadership, Odumegwu-Ojukwu served as Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Diaspora Matters from 2011 to 2012. She then served as Nigeria's ambassador to Spain from 2012 to 2015 and represented the country at the United Nations World Tourism Organization; a 2014 UN Tourism participant list identifies her as ambassador at Nigeria's embassy in Spain.
Nigerian government mission biographies state that Odumegwu-Ojukwu earned an LL.B. from the University of Nigeria in 1991 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992 after attending the Nigerian Law School in Lagos. The same sources report that she received a master's degree in international relations and diplomacy from Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio in Madrid in 2008 and completed additional diplomas at the University for Peace in Costa Rica and the Berg Institute in Madrid in 2016.
