Faye took the presidential oath on April 2, 2024, after winning Senegal's March 24 election in the first round with 2,434,751 votes, or 54.28% of valid votes. On July 19, 2026, he assumed the chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. That regional position is distinct from the presidency of the ECOWAS Commission.
Born on March 25, 1980, Faye studied law at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar and completed training at Senegal's National School of Administration. He subsequently worked as an official or inspector in the country's tax and state-property administration before his rise in national politics.
Faye was involved in the formation and leadership of PASTEF and became its secretary-general in October 2022. He was remanded in custody on April 14, 2023, during the political and judicial crisis involving PASTEF and Ousmane Sonko, and was released on March 14, 2024, shortly before the presidential election. The available sources establish his detention and release but do not clearly document the final procedural resolution of every related allegation.
In July 2026, Faye launched Kiiraay–The Republican Patriots following a reported rupture with Ousmane Sonko and PASTEF. News reporting supports the launch and political split, but the available evidence does not independently establish the new party's complete legal-registration status, internal offices or membership structure, including Faye's exact formal title.
