The artist known as Asake is identified in the reviewed sources as Ahmed Ololade Asake or Ahmed Ololade, with “Asake” used as his professional name. AllMusic lists him as born on 13 January 1995 in Lagos, while Channels Television reported that he grew up on Lagos Island in a Yoruba Muslim household. Sources also report that he studied theatre or theatre and performing arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, and Bandcamp/EMPIRE states that his stage name is his mother’s name.
Asake’s public musical identity is tied to a mix of Afrobeats, amapiano and fújì-influenced Nigerian pop. AllMusic describes the 2020 single “Lady” as the track that helped launch his breakout success, and Nigerian coverage reported that Olamide welcomed him to YBNL Nation in February 2022, a key public step in his move into the mainstream.
His debut album, Mr. Money with the Vibe, was released in 2022 and is listed by AllMusic as reaching number 66 on the Billboard 200, while the Official Charts Company lists a number 22 UK Albums Chart peak. His second album, Work of Art, followed in 2023, with AllMusic again reporting a number 66 Billboard 200 placement and Official Charts listing a number 20 UK peak. Official Charts identifies Lungu Boy as his third album and gives its release date as 9 August 2024; AllMusic reports that it included guests such as Travis Scott, Stormzy and Wizkid.
Asake’s recognition includes Nigerian, UK Black music and Grammy-related markers. Channels Television reported that he won Next Rated Artiste and Album of the Year for Mr Money with the Vibe at the 16th Headies in 2023, and the MOBO Organisation listed him as Best African Music Act at the 26th MOBO Awards in 2024. The Recording Academy lists two nominations in Best African Music Performance: “Amapiano” with Olamide for 2024 and “MMS” with Wizkid for 2025.
Recent label references require cautious wording. Bandcamp/EMPIRE, Channels Television and AllMusic do not fully align on Asake’s current label position: post-2025 releases are reported or listed under Giran Republic and EMPIRE, while the reviewed sources did not include a direct artist or YBNL contract-termination statement. Separately, a Metropolitan Police appeal in August 2024 said the investigation into the Brixton crush connected to an Asake concert on 15 December 2022 was ongoing and requested footage; the police source did not allege criminal responsibility by Asake.
