RE: R.I.P Benazir Bhutto
This is a very sad day. The assassination of this brave woman has really demoralized me to say the least.

I have been very concerned for her, since her ill-advised return to Pakistan. I have always admired her courage and been one of the very first few female head of state(s, I have been a great fan of hers. Her death by Islamic extremist cowards really breaks my heart.

It is awful, very painful and a tragic loss not only to the people of Pakistan but the international community at large.

She was destined to be killed.

She is brave, but she should have found a better balance between politics and security.

The extremists in Pakistan had so many reasons to want her dead; sad.

RE: R.I.P Benazir Bhutto
The most striking characteristic of Benazir Bhutto, back when she was a student in the 1970s, was the contrast between the intensity of her eyes and the warmth of her very large smile. It was one of countless contrasts that she embodied. She tended to wear blue jeans and baggy sweatshirts, fitting in with the dress code of the day, but she told me she dressed that way (never shorts, skirts, or t-shirts) also because it honored the Muslim custom of covering her body as a woman. Another contrast was between her nickname Pinky — she even typed some of her essays on pink paper — and her serious personality.
When I first met her at Harvard, her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had not yet been elected to office. Still, she stood out as a powerful figure in the dining hall of Elliot House, where she lived, and she displayed a passion for international politics that went beyond the antiwar rhetoric that passed for political discourse in those days. Later at Oxford, where we both ended up as grad students, she became even more intensely political. The summit of student politics there is the presidency of the Oxford Union, the venerable debating society, and she viewed it as her mission to become the first Asian woman in that post. She lost her first campaign for the post, but when her father was deposed and arrested the following year, we used that crisis as a reason to urge people to vote for her, and she won.

Benazir Bhutto navigated through personal as well as political turmoils that were far more intense than most of us can imagine. Over the years, on those rare occasions when we’d meet and reminisce, I’d notice how the features of her face had hardened a bit, as had the intensity of her stare when she talked to you. But she never lost the warmth in that very big smile.

RE: R.I.P Benazir Bhutto
Gary, Arinze, Iyabo, you guys consider this....I truely believe her death was on the cards... from the day she arrived back in the country and placed on house arrest and then released. several attempts have been made with all the explosions around her and other attacks when she tried to rally the troops.

But here is one thing that is bugging me to core... she unites pakistani's of all creed both muslims n xtains, she stood for the people.

General Musharaf, who is like the ex generals who ruled nigeria is a pawn/puppet for the west and their fight against the taliban/terrorism, The west needs musharaf to help them fight n infiltrate into Agfanistan n fighting extremes trained in pakistan.

The west needs Bhutto to stabilise/unite pakistan n their dispute with india, but Bhutto would not compromise her people to eat the crumbs dished out by the west....

So the question is who has d most to lose if Bhutto sweeps into power.

RE: R.I.P Benazir Bhutto
Nothing has devastated me so emotionally in a long time. My whole day yesterday, I spent mopping around the house completely lost and confused. I did absolutely nothing. I can’t understand why she chooses to rise from the car to greet her fans. Did someone persuade her to? Is it just because it was her time? Why?

President Pervez Musharraf has to take blame in the death of this great woman. Yes, she could have been the only one that could unite the whole of Pakistan. She promised, which made her an even more target to be killed, that she will allow the US Special Forces into the tribal, autonomous and lawless regions along the border of Pakistan believe to be where Osama Bin Laden and his gang are hiding. This is one "major" issue Musharraf has refused the United States because he doesn't want to piss off some of the radicals within the military that he depends on to stay in power. He is loyal to these elements within the military if not; he could be overthrown or even killed.

But Mrs. Bhutto would have had no loyalty to the military because she would have been elected by the people in a democratic process, giving her free reign to help fight terrorists hiding in Pakistan. Musharraf refused to give her jammers that is very important against suicide bombers that would have saved her. Musharraf and his govt, have a hand in her death even if Al Qaeda takes blame for it. She could have been protected. Besides, she was a former two-time prime minister of Pakistan and deserved to be properly protected with heavy security at all times. She was attacked in Riwalpindi, just few miles from the HQ's of the Pakistani military. How can this happen if they had adequate security for her?

Amen. Though that's not within sights now...very long way off. I think she has been marked for death since the day of her ill-advised return to PK. Well May Her Soul Rest in Peace. rose
