RE: Write a Letter to the President
Dear Mr President

Let me congratulate you on your ascendancy to the most difficult post/role in the world. I call it the most difficult because there are over 140 million individuals with 140 million needs and requests.

Mr President you have taken over Nigeria, when the rich /poor divide is at its widest. It is also a very precarious time for Nigeria because some would want a faster change and others would say that change is too fast.

However, these in my opinion are not what you should be focusing energy on.

I believe you should pay more attention to event and activities that will benefit almost every citizen of Nigeria, the rest will follow.

These activities are:

1, Education, every growing or developing country/economy must have a well educated and fully equipped labour/work force. The No 1 resource for any country is not oil or other natural resources, it is her human resources and I believe that country must make a serious effort to educate her people.

You could start by introducing free education for all children up to the completion of secondary education.

2, Medicare, Mr President our people are dieing needlessly because only those who can afford to pay are getting any form of hospital treatment. A healthy society requires investment in medicare. Mr President, Nigerians are placing too much emphasis on prayer houses rather than going to hospital because they cannot afford it.

Mr President, even those who manage to get to general hospitals are asked to go and buy cards for the doctors to write their diagnosis, and then all drugs including injections and needles have to be bought externally by relatives of the person being admitted.

3, Mr President, the country has to embark on job creation schemes to get the country back to work. There are graduates who can not get work; there are experienced qualified professionals who cannot get job. They are rotting away and some are embarking on criminal activities.

Mr President, the country needs to embark on road building, house building, and regeneration schemes.

4, Mr President a growing economy must have a decent communication system. A country the size of Nigeria cannot rely on mobile networks provided by outsiders. Nigeria needs a land line operated by Nigerians that will challenge the mobile networks and force prices down for the users.

5, Mr President, we can not mention strongly the need for a decent power supply for the citizens. In fact I will rank power supply as the second most important pressing issue.

6, Along with the need for improvements in Medicare, a country like Nigeria, surrounded by rivers and oceans deserves better supply of drinking water for her citizens.

7, Corruption, I think we need to set up a task force of judges, individuals and legally trained Nigerians in Diaspora to tackle this problem. The problem is such that we cannot trust any person within Nigeria to take a part in this task force.

There are other problems, however, once we make a positive start on the above, the people of Nigeria will warm to you and realise that you understand their problem and have come to champion their cause. They will work with you.

RE: Write a Letter to the President
Ahanna, you are my "people's champion". Good letter. You might end up in his cabinet with this one but you must add one other key issue in Nigeria which is SECURITY. The police force needs to be properly trained, provided for and fully equiped to be able to respond to the needs of our people. We don't want them sitting in the station playing Ludo and roasting corn. We want out patrolling.

Also, he must not neglect the welfare of our armed forces so they don't start eyeing "politricks" again. We need them to help defend, and not to hijack democracy.

Good letter. Don't send it DHL, they thieves. Big Smile
