RE: Child Support
The western world made a near perfect laws for supporting children financially by both parents. This law ensures that a non willing parent is made to pay for his/her child whether he/she likes it or not.

Do you think that this Law should be passed in Nigeria by the law makers? what are the chances of it's success since we dont have a way of checking our income or garnish our pay cheque? Do you think that some unscruplous women will use this law to take advantage of some men like in America and Britain?

RE: Child Support
Cameroun has a law that demands any man that impregnates a school girl to pay 800K CFA as one time fee for supporting the mother or risk going to jail. Many Nigerian business men have been shortchanged by that law in cameroun. what can you do? why sleep with a secondary school girl in the first place?

RE: Child Support
Absolutely. Unfortunately, at the moment in Nigeria, there is no way of even enforcing such a law even if it is enacted or passed. As with everything else, Nigeria still remains behind. If by chance, Nigeria can sort out her issues and figure out her purpose or identity for that matter, I think this law will not only pass but it help alot of social issues we have in Nigeria.

Children must be loved and taken care of no matter the circumstance. I strongly disagree with your "unscrupulous women" phrase. Men are just as evil. If you don't want to be used, either zip it up or wrap it up and If you are willing to go all the way, be ready to pay all the way.

RE: Child Support
I support the idea of child support in its entirety whether men are used or not by the law. My only fear is that it may never come to reality in Nigeria. Why? customary laws and underdeveloped checks and balances.

Btw,
How do you create a space under the law for non bastards, that is...children whose father deserted under the polygamous law?

Nigeria still has inadequate facilities for DNA testing, how can you say for sure that Ahanna is the father of Dauda before asking him for support?

@ obi, can you explain this further? "Btw,
How do you create a space under the law for non bastards, that is...children whose father deserted under the polygamous law?"

RE: Child Support
@Gary, i mentioned unscruplous women because some women use that law to get back at men for a relationship gone bad. Look at the case of 50 cents(rapper), the very women that left him when he was struggling is demanding $30K per month from him because he is succesful now when him(50 cents) is currently paying about $10k monthly for his son besides taking him out with him often. what kind of child expenses that cannot be covered under $120k(untaxed) per annum?. Same thing happened to P diddy. Black women are good at this.

Imagine in the Nigerian scenario, where DNA testing is still below standard like obi said. Imagine how these women will point at any man they feel like and claim he is their baby's daddy because the man has a car and a job when their real baby daddy works with NARTW(national association of road transport workers). Scared

RE: Child Support
@Gary, customary laws in Nigeria accepts polygamous marriages as legal. In most cases, these men assemble women like Fela and just continue fertilizing them without any form of support for the fruit of their 'hard' labour. Those imen in regimental professions especially the police, travel around the country and plant their seeds anywhere they go by marrying unsuspecting school age girls. How will the govt harness all these mess, keep them in check and collect the dues for this kids according to their numbers? Even in America, they still find it difficult to collect child support from some social miscreants that call themselves parents. I think there is a website in America where deadbeat dads and mums are listed with their pictures.

Imagine what those Yoruba women that carry loads in idumota go through? They are married to dead beat baba who has almost 8 of them under his roof and all he does is sit on his dais all day, fart loudly and wait for his palm wine dividends from all his wives each day. What a prodigal prodigy? Mad

RE: Child Support
Btw,
on the issue of cameroun asking for 800k cfa for impregnating school girls, good for them. That is not good enough, i think Nigeria should make a law that'll be a minimum of 5 yrs in jail if you impregnate an under 18 yr old girl and subsequently hold you liable for the childs upkeep. Mad Mad

RE: Child Support
@30, I see your point and it makes sense. No doubt there are plenty of women that see that as an opportunity and would take advantage of it. But you also have to understand what women go through. After been sweet talked to take her panties off and laid the "wood" on seriously, the next day, Bobo start to act funny. Next time she would get pregnant to trap him because it's only way but we men must be smart enough to know to use protection to avoid the trap. It is obvious.

But on the other hand, if the man walks out after they both agree to have a child and later on he becomes successful, he has to have a heart to reward the woman he once loved and that have been there for his child or children. It is easy for men to walk away but no at all for women. They go through more than we do in life. Just imagine the lies they hear from men on a daily basis alone, because men want to fcuk them, all of them. At a point you have to feel sorry for them too.

If P.diddy and 50 cents have gone to these women directly and treated with them respect, talk with them and be open about everything, they can come to an agreement that will help and benefit each other, let her go and be happy. You will be happy, your child will be happy. But in most cases, men always want to out smart the woman, but as you know, the man will NEVER win.

RE: Child Support
@gary, denm use gun open your pants? If you are trying to hurt your baby dady because of relationship gone bad, you may be hurting your child too because your attitude may be chasing his/her dad away from your home.

True, there should be a law against the evil men do with their penis. i even want them to make a law that will jail adulterers for at least 2 yrs(95% of american men will be in jail and 97% of Nigerian men will be on parole before 2013). The evil that men do lives after them(bible).
