RE: Why i can't blame Nigeria's representing other countries in Olympics
These athletes are not really treated and appreciated like the soccer players even the soccer players have to go into much delegation and argument before they are given what they want. Sad I feel people representing the country surpose not to actually think about the financal gain on but fame and pride they are going to achieve all over. Tongue out The government don't wanna pay them and they feel if they if they cant get paid for been good and patrotic in their homeland, why dont they go to other countries and get paid get famous and be treated with royalty.Big Smile Don't blame no body guys....most of the athletes that could have given us a medal are busy representing other countries right now. countries like: United states, Bahamas, Portugal, Dominical republic, France and England. Baring Teeth ciro

@ CIRO, U ARE RIGHT MAN!!!!!!!. NIGERIA IS A COUNTRY OF TALENTS, NOT JUST IN SPORTS BUT INTELLECTUALLY TOO BUT ITS SO UNFORTUNATE THAT THE GOVERNMENT WASTE MOST OF THEIR TIME DEFENDING WHAT THEY DONT KNOW AND SEE, THEREFORE NEGLECTING THE TALENTS THAT CAN BRING OUR COUNTRY HER PRIDE. NIGERIAN'S NEVER APPRECIATE WHAT THEY HAVE TILL ITS GONE, TO COUNTRIES WHO SHOW APPRECIATION AND INVEST A GREAT DEAL TO IT.

haha Manti e be like sey this ting vex you well well Baring Teeth .
I don't blame them at all. Naija sports ministry has a long history of abusing athletes - it has nothing to do with OBJ. I mean look at what they did to Alozie: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sports/ol...condsubsection=
this is just one of many horror stories...

RE: Why i can't blame Nigeria's representing other countries in Olympics
what is wrong is wrong? come on manti u cant be sayin this. Where do we start from. I personally grew up with the whole idea of getting to play in a Nigerian jersey.. and I am sure all of us men had those childhood dreams. But right about now, I really see no reason to play at home. We considered people like Fashanu as sell outs as kids... read their profiles now and u'd understand. Why was Obafemi procastinating his debut for Nigeria? Cos obviously we overlook talent. We think we are soo blessed that we ignore them. We see soo many good athletes around and u think we are filled with it so they shdnt be really appreciated... Where do i start from? Presidential Handshakes? Gloria Alozie's story after the death of her husband? If u listen to the Olympics coverage.. it was talked about yesterday. These are people who had run for how many years and won us medals. I think they have played their role. With all our dedication to soccer over all other sports..what have we gained? We still cant come up with ateam. What happened to table tennis. there is no ridiculously good table tennis champ in Nigeria? How many Nigerian names did i read during the Olympics? Countless! Do u think Emeka Okafor would decide he was playin for the Nigerian Basketball team. U think the same way Adu would think of playin for Ghana? There was an Oyepitan runnin for Britain. Theres some other Ibo name in the US Volleyball squad. OH.. Obadele Thompson? I give Deji Aliu a couple of more years and u'd see what would happen. Lastly if they had somewhere where they would be appreciated to come back to Im sure theyd forget the fame and paycheck for a min. Take the Iraqi squad.. they know what a Medal would do to their country...talk more of a gold one...they understand the need for a unifying factor, hope somewhere..fans that would love em.. take their minds off what they face. Put a smile on the kid kickin oranges in his basement. But actually thats really not the case... what are these Nigerians comin back to? Babangida after 8 years hopin to run again? And Im supposed to run?? Are u freakin kiddin me? Do we not understand wrong? Now Babangida runnin..NFA's perspective.. Sports Authority's treatment... now thats wrong. Please if u have the chance to run for Lithuania or St Lucia.. or some off shore place anywhere around the globe..u'll be appreciated and treated better...u'll get to live abroad...get to travel.. enjoy better facilities... live a well to do life... peace of mind and a fatter paycheck. Please do not go cos its wrong?~

RE: Why i can't blame Nigeria's representing other countries in Olympics
I can't just blame the athletes from representing other countries. In short I commend them 4 taking the wise decision. since they are not valued in their own country, i think the best thing was to go somewhere they will be appreciated.
at least, since their country can not change them, then let them change try another country.
I think this is a big lesson the sport minister and the govt too.

RE: Why i can't blame Nigeria's representing other countries in Olympics
it's not a bad olympic after all.

Nigeria beat South Korea 68-64 to become the first African women's basketball team to win a match at the Olympic Games.
Nigeria had lost their first five matches in Athens but they beat the Koreans to claim 11th place overall.
