Purple Hibiscus

Jay Remix Review Board
A critical review of the most resent novel to my classic collection

Dearest Asorockers...

The event was the reading of Purple Hibiscus at the UConn Co-op. I am sure most of u dont know what book in the world is Purple Hibiscus and the college Basketball addicts know where UConn is. I received a mail saying a beautiful young Nigerian lady {NAME WITHELD FOR NOW} was going to be reading her long awaited debut novel in my school. I had to work on that Thursday and had a math review that day, soccer club practice on the same day, two projects due and an exam the next. Nothing stopped me from walking the length of the school in the rain and blowing wind to get there. I was late, thanks to my foolishness but still heard the latter end of the reading. It was so enchanting, if thats the right word in context, to see the same person, the same lovely lady, captivate an audience with such wit and style that allowed each individual hearing and attentively watching her careful spontaneous yet calculated response to the questions thrown at her with such ease and command of the language, marvel in awe. It was yet more so a sight to be able to see the way someone would approach and capture my favorite topic - religion in a yet subtle but emphatic style. Come on, u know I had to buy the book!
It wasnt just the innocent childs eye-view that she gave. Neither was it the read between the lines, nor the culture she appreciated in her novel. It wasnt the simplicity at which she played her character and carefully described things as they happened, nor the precise choice of words that she used that made their mark. The dialogue... ingenious, flawless and as cultural as it can be. Is it the fact that it has been written so that any nigerian reading it will feel a deep sense of de javu and relate personally to it? Or the perfect recollection in detail of our unique culture and attitude towards life? This is a really heart-inspiring trail of our culture and the intricate details of Nigerian life, as seen and portrayed by a beautiful young Nigerian girl. It is a must cop book! And if you dont want to buy it because you do not appreciate literature at its best, or because its a fine blend of our culture and politics as it unfolds in Nigeria; if all these do not stimulate you to buy it, buy it cos its a ROCKER!
Yep its a rocker. And I, considered one of the most critical self acclaimed reviewers or all time, have started with the book, got in the middle and decided to share it with the next level of the outside world... The asorock community.
On a more serious note... all I have said is no flattery [maybe u can skip the last paragraph, hmm I suggest you should] but all that I said on the novel Purple Hibiscus is truly belittling what I should say. I havent finished but I cant waste any more minutes typing when I should be reading... Besides... guys and gals... it would keep u busy and preoccupied as against watching a hairy Saddam being treated like a cow.
Lastly, the mysterious rocker is none other than the voraciously beautiful lady who brought us the Asorock Classic amongst many... On short sleeves in the Church and Amanda's THoughts. Now 'm talking... Purple Hibiscus is the long awaited debut novel by Miss Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

She receives * * * * * from the Jay Remix Review Board! If there were more *'s possible. She'd get all.

PS.. Expect photographs of the event soon. They are right now in Storrs, which Iwont be going back to until later in January.
