Not for the impatient Part II - Uncovered

This is a complete misrepresentation of the Nigerian Woman...and I won't
stand for it. Let's be realistic! Every human with a thinking faculty
goes through some form of change when relocating to a different part of
the world. There's a certain development process that registers in the
mind that gives one a different perspective on life no matter how little
the experience. However, a spade is still spade no matter how you try and
bleach it white or give it bend-bend leg. That being the case, a Nigerian
woman will always be a Nigerian woman, but to some extent she has to
adjust both her mindset and disposition to the new world that she is
confronting. This doesn't mean that she loses touch with her culture, but
means that she has to compromise. Not many women can get away with tying
wrapper and wearing slippers to go to their job at the World Bank. It's
just not done in this culture. Haba! With regards to food - if she didn't
know how to cook 'Iyan' when she left Nigeria for the outside world, you
think she'd know how to cook it after being here for a couple of years?

Whether my write-up makes sense to you or not, one thing people should
understand about Nigerian women is that we are just like you - Nigerian
men. Both genders are forced to compromise some part of their identity no
matter how minute to be able to exist in this society. Either your accent
changes, your dress sense changes, or even your general attitude changes
towards life changes. We both came from a society that limited our
creative potential and capabilities, and now we are in a world that
recognizes and respects us...that is why this cross-cultural change has
taken place.

Don't think Nigerian women are fronting. The fact of the matter is that
we have come to learn that there is nothing wrong in voicing our opinions
to our men, nothing wrong in wearing what we want to wear, nothing wrong
in carrying ourselves in a manner dictated by us - and not by our
male-dominated society. Give us some respect for crying out loud. We are
the same women who will give/who gave birth to your sons...and it was a
Nigerian woman that gave birth you, son. Nigerian women this, Nigerian
women that! Again, I'm screaming it this time - GIVE US A FREAKIN' BREAK!

Nigerian men, respect yourselves and respect the fact that a Nigerian
woman brought you into this world. You inherently blessed just because of
that fact alone. Don't take Nigerian women for granted. We are here to
stay and you will marry us and we will bear your children. And those of
us that can cook will cook, while those of us that cannot, make it your
responsibility to teach us to cook. What we think and do today is most
definitely going to affect us tomorrow, so be wise in your discussions
and complaints. Don't be quick to judge and make generalizations. The
world does not evolve around just you - Nigerian man - it includes us too
- Nigerian women. Don't be scared of us or intimidated. If we are of a
sound mind that you feel you cannot cope with, either you stick with us,
or you find someone who is less challenging and more passive. If you
decide to stick with us, you'll be enlightened and inspired a great deal.
Don't hate on us. Every Nigerian woman is an individual and has her own
unique qualities that make her who she is and represents what she stands
for all around the Diaspora.

Don't make the division and deeper than it already is...let's try and
seal the divide and unite as one, because that is all we are at the end
of the day. We are one - the Nigerian man and the Nigerian woman - as
brother and sister, husband and wife, mother and son, father and
daughter, and all other man to woman relations.
