"We.,,,, we ,,,, we gat a game plan but unfortunately it's not a game to us you know cause we
ain't got the luxury of losing". These are the first words(intro) of my February pick for hip hop Cd
of the month. These are words of Sosa from the Firm. 'AZ'. One of the most creative rappers to
have sprung out of Brooklyn New York. The first time I heard this gentleman raise it up was when
he spit the bars of life on Illmatic's 'Life is a Bitch'. Ever since then AZ has transcended his rap
game to levels beyond. Although his nine-year career has yielded four albums and numerous guest
appearances, AZ has never been able to escape the shadow of his debut verse.
Believe it or not Aziatic is was the most slept on album of 2002. Homeboy came correct this time.
No joke. The Album Aziatic comprise 14 tracks' all of which stand strong. From a production
standpoint, Aziatic is reminiscent of a new school hip hop classic. While most of the album is
heavily laced with soulful R&B production, it is also lightly sprinkled with a few club-friendly
bounce beats. The majority of the tracks feature some sort of singing ingrained within the beat or on
the hook, and, for the most part, the R&B emphasis adds a measure of continuity that AZ's albums
have often lacked. The Visualiza's musings are best served over mellow instrumentation such as
"Wanna Be There", "Paradise" and "The Essence." . Believe it or not " The Essence" is nominated
for a GRAMMY(2003).
For best duo rap category. The Essence features one of the finest gangsters
in the game today ; Nasty Nas Escobar, a.k.a Godson . Az displays his creativity in a song called
'Fan Mail' where he is reading his fan mail in rap form and after each verse comes a mellow hook
that stays mesmerizing before the next mail is read.....I can go on and on about what this record
(Aziatic) has to offer; beats ,tight rhymes and creativity......
Paradoxically, Aziatic; the album leaves no doubt that AZ's sharp tongue has not been dulled by a
decade of use. In fact, one could probably argue that AZ's writing is actually superior to the
penmanship currently displayed by both Nas and Jay-Z. With more inventive production and stronger
song concepts, AZ might finally achieve the consistency needed to reach the status of his more
renowned compatriots. 'Fan Mail' where he is reading his fan mail in rap form and after each verse
comes a mellow hook that stay mesmerizing before the next mail is read... I can go on and on about
what this album has to offer; beats , rhymes, as well as creativity.
This is a most buy, Go out to your local CD store, used or new and pick up Aziatic. . If you have it
already , then pull it out of your rack for spins this month. Aziatic is something to bounce to this
month. The month of Febuary
Double 'O' signing out......
Aziatic is a 2002 Motown Records Production.
